Mahaanui offers authentic New Zealand farm accommodation and an experience for visitors of all ages.
Simon and Sally look forward to welcoming you to their farm.
Simon and his family have farmed Mahaanui for nearly 70 years. Sally, when she is not helping Simon or hosting visitors from all around the world, works as a nurse at the local Gisborne hospital.
You may meet one of Simon and Sally’s three children visiting their family home when you visit. Now young adults, they are working on farms around New Zealand and the world after studying agricultural and veterinary sciences at university.
Mahaanui farmstay offers two private accommodation options: self-contained home Mahaanui cottage and the 10-bed backpacker hostel Mahaanui quarters. Both the cottage and quarters are comfortable, private and offer breath-taking hill country views and private access to the gorgeous Hangaroa river (after a short walk). Mahaanui farmstay also has several different activities and opportunities available for guests. There are marked walking tracks, swimming holes, waterfalls, starry skies and optional farm activities available. There is something for all fitness levels and age groups, so don’t worry, nobody will miss out on the fun!
